One of our co-founder’s son has several allergies, including a tree nut allergy. So when we created our line of natural skincare products, we intentionally left out the tree-nut oils that many other natural skincare brands include. It turns out there was good reason to do this – kids with eczema often have a tree nut allergy! We pride ourselves in creating products that can be used by all kiddos, including those that have food sensitivitiesand nut allergies. Instead, we use a variety of other plant-based oils to nourish and soothe skin.
We know, from experience, about all the challenges of parenting a child with a nut allergy. And the biggest challenge isn’t skincare related, it’s definitely snack related! If you are the parent of a kiddo with food allergies, or are steering clear of nuts for any other reasons, we have compiled a list of our favorite budget friendlyhealthy snacks without nuts. From our family to yours, bon appetite!
- Irresistible Nut-Free Pancakes!
One of our favorite things about pancakes is that they are so much more than a breakfast food. Pop one in the toaster for an afternoon snack and top with Sunbutter, and you’ll never see a happier kiddo. With food allergies, though, it can be hard to find just the right ones. This recipe from Momables is nut, gluten, egg and dairy free – and delicious! We like to make them in large batches and freeze them for an easy-breezy future snack.
- Delicious Nut-Free Homemade Granola Bars!
We know that shopping for granola bars for kids with food allergies is mentally – and financially – taxing. So, we make our own! These granola bars from Yummy Toddler Food can easily be made nut free (just use seed butter, not nut butter!) and are simple to make, not to mention that they last a long time (if they aren’t snatched up by little hands reaching for delicious goodies). Check out the recipe here!
- Yummy Nut-Free Muffins!
If you have had the opportunity to check out our ingredient substitutions post, then you know that we are fond of creative and delicious food substitutions to make sure every kiddo gets delicious meals that they can safely eat. This creative and simple recipe from Allergy Awesomeness is for delicious muffins that steer clear of all nuts, and various other allergens, too! Our kiddos love this snack at any time of the day, and they’re so easy to make.
We hope that your little helping hands join in the cooking fun! Food allergies aren’t just a problem during snack time, of course! They persist for regular mealtimes as well. To help ease the burden of allergy free cooking, we created a guide with some of the best substitutions for a variety of allergens, from cow’s milk to tree nuts, and everything in between.
